The Kaduna state government has announced the withdrawal of the salaries of 13, 336 workers from its payroll.
The Head of Service, Mrs. Alisabethan Onazi, disclosed this at a press conference in Kaduna.
She said the decision follows a series of verification exercises embarked upon by the state government which found the workers wanting.
According to her, the affected workers will have to undergo a re-verification to prove that they are genuine.
On assumption of office last year, the state government embarked on a series of biometric verifications to identify ghost workers and reduce the huge wage bill.
Onazi said the affected workers would be personally verified by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
She said the state’s 88,000 workforce had been reduced to 75,000 workers following the verification of exercise.
Onazi added that out of the 75,000 workers duly screened by a special committee which was headed by her, the 13, 336 workers removed from the payroll still had questions to answer.
According to her, “They will need to undergo re-verification, but this time it is not a committee that will handle the exercise, but the governor himself.”
